Nationwide warns house prices likely to fall further

House prices will continue to fall in the near future, the Nationwide building society has suggested.

The lender said potential buyers were being deterred by the uncertainty generated by the government's public spending cuts

House prices are still under downward pressure as sellers outnumber potential buyers, surveys suggest.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) said 44% of its members had seen prices fall in the past three months.

Four of the "big six" UK energy suppliers are to be investigated amid concerns of mis-selling to customers, the regulator has announced.
